Your Perfect Fit by Caitlyn Martinez, Denim Specialist

Have you ever wondered if your jeans are the “right fit” for your body type?  From a variety of washes to different styles, there is always a perfect fit that’s most flattering just for you.  Whether they’re skinnies or bootcut, you should always love the jeans that you are in.

For those who are lean and tall and never feel as if denim comes long enough, Hudson’s “Super Model” are a must have! Designed with a 36 inch inseam, the “Super Model” fit gives you a great silhouette as well as comfort.  Low rises with longer inseams work well for the taller woman.  Paige Premium Denim has a newer style of jean called the “Lou Lou” that looks amazing on longer legs

If you are a beautiful curvy woman with the ever-desired booty, the “Honey Booty” by Joe’s Jeans is a personal favorite.  This jean looks great on your “lady lumps.”  The “Honey Booty” is a mid rise boot cut and comes in a variety of washes.  If you prefer a more straight leg or skinny jean, the “Ava” by Citizens is a sure classic. This denim looks great tucked into your favorite boots, flats, sandals or even with your wedges.  The “Hidden Hills” by Paige also fits well with this look.  A common rule to remember if you are between sizes is to go with the smaller size.  Your jeans will stretch up to a 1/2 size larger as you wear them.

For the petite ladies, I recommend the Citizen “Dita.”  This a basic bootcut.  The “Dita” has a 31 inch inseam and you will fall in love the minute you try them out at your local retailer.  Hudson also has a classic bootcut with a 31 inch inseam.  They’re a low rise jean with the flap pockets.  Look for any denim that has a line of wiskering from right under your back pockets to the bottom of your jeans.  This will elongate your legs and give you height.  If there are jeans that you have to have but are way too long, you can always get them hemmed.  Most places reattach original hems as well.

Those with not as much “junk in their trunk,” True Religion and Hudson both have styles that work with this body type.  Flap pockets give great dimension to your back side.   Any pair of Paiges will be flattering too because of the pockets.  They are smaller to make it look like you have more back there.  The “boyfriend” fit, meaning a little baggier than normal and sitting more on your hips that you’ve seen all summer long is still a great look in fall with your favorite pair of flats.  This cuffed look looks great and fits almost every body type.

From lean and tall to curvy and everywhere in between, there are numerous directions you can go on your quest to the perfect jean fit.  There is always hope no matter what body type so don’t give up!  There is a jean waiting for you right now as you read this.  Now go find them, flaunt that gorgeous body of yours and have fun!

SheWants to Eat, Love, and Shop….

As summer style gives way to fall fashion, women everywhere are gearing up for new looks and exciting trends.  Here are the top fall trends:

Military Inspired Looks:   Utilitarian touches toughen up neutral outfits and make them California casual but cool.

Faux Fur Jackets and Vests:   Super luxe layered over just jeans and a t-shirt or with a cute little skirt and boots.

Boots:   THE most popular footwear for fall.  Styles range from booties with peep toe cut outs to high heeled over the knee boots.  Boots add a serious edge that makes any outfit stand out.

Cross Body Bags:  The latest gotta-have handbag style.  Chain straps make them the perfect accessory for any outfit. These bags not only add a fresh touch to any outfit, they’re much easier on the shoulders than the oversized bags that have dominated in recent years.

Classic Tailored Suits:  Sleek jackets with skirts or trousers were shown by most major designers’ fall collections.  Add a killer high heel and a silky top for a sophisticated look that redefines power dressing.

Denim:  Key item in every girl’s wardrobe.  This season, the skinny jean still reigns but equally trendy are boyfriend styles featuring a relaxed fit. Denim shirts are making a showing this season and tailored chambray ones look fantastic with camel or khaki pants and skirts.  In addition, jean jackets are still a classic wardrobe staple-they never seem to go out of style.

Camel Color:  Coats, skirts and pants in this color are making a huge comeback.  This universally flattering neutral looks equally gorgeous with everything from denim to silk.

Stylish Sweat Suits:   Perfect for the active life style.  Every fashionista should own at least 2! Accessorizing with great jewelry will polish this relaxed look and make it chic.

Lady Like Looks:   Brought to the forefront of fall fashion single-handedly by AMC’s “Mad Men”.  Retro inspired dresses and separates create curves for the coveted hour glass figure.  Feminine touches add appealing softness to these sweet looks.

SheWants to be Appropriate….

With graduations and weddings on the horizon it may be time to get a crash course in considerate etiquette regarding such events!

First, if you are invited to either the celebration or the ceremony – RSVP immediately! Your friend or relative thought enough to invite you to a very special part of their lives and in some cases the tickets or seats they reserve are limited so it would be much appreciated if you helped them get an accurate head count in a timely fashion. This also translates into consideration for HOW the invitation is addressed. If it says Mr. Smith and guest, then it means you can bring a guest and the same rule applies for children. If your children are not listed in the invite or they did not receive their own invitation, don’t bring them! Also, it would be in poor taste for you to call and ask for an exception.

Regarding gifts for such occasions, yes, send or bring a gift before or on the day of the event. There is a little leeway in regards to a wedding gift. Myth says, you have up to a year AFTER the ceremony to send a present but in these busy times, why not send a gift right away and save yourself from possibly forgetting?

The part that continually confuses most people is if you are sent an announcement and not an actual invitation. In this case, it is not necessary to send a gift but a gift is always appreciated and a card is always thoughtful.

Here are a few things to remember when attending either event:

1. Always remember to be on your best behavior and dress appropriately.

2. Greet the guest of honor(s) and their family and make an effort to mingle with the other invited guests.

3. Wear clothes that are comfortable yet stylish and appropriate for the time of day.

4. Always remember that being invited to a special event is an honor and if you treat is as such – you won’t go wrong!

Of course, it makes it much easier when the graduate or the bride is registered at SheWants.com because you’ll know exactly what they want!

SHE WANTS TO BE EARTH FRIENDLY!

Is green the new black?  It seems everywhere we turn lately, there are trendy companies offering eco-friendly clothing, accessories and make-up.  How exciting is it to be able to go green and care for the environment in style?  There is a hotbed of eco-chic organic lifestyles online and now it’s easier than ever to be green AND fashionable.  Doing your part to save the environment can start with simple steps like:

1. carrying a reusable water bottle

2. walking to places instead of driving

3. keeping a cute canvas bag handy for purchases that would normally go in a plastic or paper bag

4. purchasing eco-friendly products

To launch a “green” journey into full speed ahead mode, plan on reading a few fashionable green books like Green Chic Book: Saving the Earth in Style by Christie Matheson, Eco-Babe’s Guide to Greening It by Stephanie Byng or The Green Book:  The Everyday Guide to Saving the Planet One Simple Step at a Time by Elizabeth Rogers and Thomas M. Kostigen.  The authors of The Green Book enlisted the help of some high profile friends, including Cameron Diaz, Robert Redford, Jennifer Aniston, Tyra Banks, Tiki Barber and more, to tell how they make a difference in regard to the environment.  The book focuses on how little things can make a big impact, for example not asking for ATM receipts:  if everyone in the U.S. refused their receipts, it would save a roll of paper more than two billion feet long-enough to circle the equator fifteen times!

Consider this:  if one out of every five Americans purchased a 100% organic t-shirt instead of one made from conventionally grown U. S. cotton, nearly fifty thousand tons of agrochemicals would be prevented from polluting American ecosystems.  Also, the process of dyeing fabric generates the largest proportion of wastewater produced by the textile industry.  So, even though 2010 is a big year for color in the fashion industry, fashionistas should be buying clothes with “natural” colors to complement them.  If most Americans bought just one pair of pants that weren’t dyed, it would save enough dye to cover the city of San Diego with an inch of colorful liquid.

SheWants to De-Clutter

Spring has sprung, and there’s no better time to do a little cleaning. When it comes to fashion and wardrobe choices, ask yourself: Does it take you longer than five minutes to get dressed in the morning? If so, it’s time for a closet edit. But for many, this is easier said than done. If the thought of tackling your closet makes you queasy, don’t fret. Spring cleaning can be fashionable and fun with these tips!

Get Started

When doing a closet edit, separate all of your apparel into one of four categories:

1. DONATE clothing you don’t want to charity. If you haven’t worn something in over a year, consider donating it. Goodwill drop-off centers on Carmel Valley Road at Hwy. 5 in Del Mar and La Costa Blvd. off the 5 fwy., as well as the Salvation Army on Sports Arena Blvd. in San Diego make it quick and easy to donate your used goods.

2. CONSIGN designer clothes no longer “for you.” Designer Consigner of La Jolla is a great place to consign perfect condition designer label apparel, as is Carolyn’s designer resale in Del Mar. For the rest of your apparel and accessories, consider Flashbacks in downtown San Diego and Encinitas, Buffalo Exhange in Pacific Beach, or one of any three Double Take resale shops along the coast. You can earn money on things you no longer want to wear.

3. TAILOR clothing so it’s flattering and up-to-date. Elegance Tailors in Del Mar does an excellent job on alterations.

4. KEEP and organize the remaining pieces by color, function or season. Purchase quality storage containers, hangers and hooks to keep your closet organized and functional. Products from the Container Store at Fashion Valley Mall can help even the most cluttered closet look like a boutique! During these crazy times, it’s more important than ever to start your day by getting ready in a nicely done closet that you’re happy in.

Classic Keeps

Not sure what to keep? Here are some guidelines:

  • Classic Designer Pieces: Louis Vuitton, St. John, Chanel, etc. are a beautiful investment.
  • Patent leather: It’s always fashionable.
  • Leopard Print: Which is cyclical because it always comes back.
  • Peep Toed Shoes: Are always stylish, even if the current emphasis is on a different shape.
  • Quality Leather Goods: Like belts, handbags, and jackets, as long as they’re in good condition.
  • Items with Sentimental Value: Label and place these items in storage containers out of the way.

Add List

After editing and organizing your closet, look at the season’s trends and shop with a list based on what you need to complete your wardrobe.

This spring, the hottest trends are:

  • Safari Jackets
  • Denim
  • Any shade of Blue
  • Neutral Colors
  • Tailored looks
  • Hemlines are Creeping Up

And remember, if you need help, shop with someone who can be objective, or consult a fashion stylist (they’re not just for celebrities!).

Most importantly, know what looks good on you and feel great about your own personal style. The most important fashion accessory you can possess is confidence and good posture makes any outfit look better.

SheWants To Be Twittering

Fareed Zakaria, editor of Newsweek magazine, gave a speech at a law firm’s annual meeting. He covered many topics but one to comment about was how we were all missing the power of Twitter www.twitter.com , and that prompted us to make note of the following observation:

Here in the US we tend to think of twitter as just the latest social networking toy, the tool of narcissists who want us to know what they are doing all the time or of celebrities and sports figures who take their competition off the screen or field to see who has more followers.

But we have missed the truly revolutionary aspect of Twitter  – that it allows the power of the Internet, of broadcasts and custom networks, to be available to anyone on the planet with a cellphone. Here in the US, and In most of the developed world, the internet is a computer-based world of desktop and laptop based applications-browser-based networks like myspace ir facebook. Although smartphones are used for the net, they are typically in addition to a computer, not as an altenative to it.

But in the developing world, computers are for only the elite few. Over 2 billion adults on this planet own cellphones but have no computer. Before Twitter, all they could do was make calls. But now they can access the Internet, broadcast news and conduct business with their networks all from their cellphones without the need for a computer. These networks are also largely outside state control – although a government can filter search engines or IP addesses, it can’t shut down Twitter without shutting down phone service. The Iranians tried it on a couple of occasions for an hour or two but the backlash and impact was so great they had to turn the phones back on.

This is the Internet for the rest of the world. News will get in and out largely uncensored, unfiltered by media conglomerates or goverenment.  A fisherman offshore in India can Twitter his followers about his catch, as his competitors, while still at sea. Shopkeepers in Zimbabwe can send out Twitter messages advertising specials to their customers and contractors can bid for and be awarded jobs in Ecuador. All by phone and without computers.  This is the information revolution for the poor half of planet earth - and it is accelerating, largely without comment or awareness in the first world. So if you really want to know what is happening in Tehran right now, or who has the best deals on fish at the wharves in Mombasa, pick up your phone and find out!

Fragrance Wardrobe

Traditionally, many women had a signature scent-they’d wear the same perfume day in and day out. Now, modern women are assembling a collection of fragrances so they can chose the perfect scent for any occasion. Here are some suggestions for a complete fragrance wardrobe courtesy of Nieman Marcus. For work, Prada’s L’Eau Ambree is perfect for the confident woman. During free time , try something chic like Chanel’s Cristalle Eau Verte. Going to a ladies’ lunch? Van Cleef & Arpels’ Collection Extraordinaire floral fragrance is fresh and lovely. Wearing a cocklail dress? The perfect accessory is Creed’s Acqua Fiorentina. And finally, date night-Halston Woman is irresistible.
